Why isn’t Long Island its own state?

That question has been very debatble by many people, whether a  Long islander or not. There’s several obvious reasons…and several specific reasons. Certainly we have the means to do it by. Entertainment industry. Agriculture Industry. Transportation industry. It’s more though…there’s more to it…read on…

Cons: LI, as you may know, is not cheap. High gas. High taxes (already). High everything. Even some high poverty srticken hamlets. Just imagine the hell this would be like. Taxes would go higher than they already are. Gas would probably go up to $5. We would have to make state laws, probably get more organized and create new state agencies. LI would not be a happy place. We would be one of the top 5 smallest states. More people would move here, which may lead to overcrowding. We already have enough pollution and enough people for low-rating LIPA to handle. We’d also need our own transportation system and make a license plate.

Pros: Us Long Islanders, we have pride. No matter if we are in a debt, if we have high prices, a bad storm, we pick our selvs up. We would have the pride. We would probably get a sports team because of our population. We have over 2 million inhabitants…some states 30 times our size struggle to top 1 million. We have a great tourism industry and we are in close proximity to the famous New York City. We have some good, fresh agriculture and we are known for our vineyards. The taxes may rise but we’d be a rich state.

So see, there’s just too many things we need to comeplete to become a state. Too many people to argue with and too many things to do….we’re fine under NYS as long as we get our fair share…and if we don’t…well, then we don’t …..

    • Sunshinegurly, good question, when I was younger i thought it’d be cool to actually have our own state….now I am old enough to understand it would just hurt us rather than help. I say no. It’s already expensive here.
